I like reading one positive review (4-5 stars), one negative one (1-2 stars), and then one in the middle to get a good feel for whether or not I’ll enjoy the book If someone doesn’t like the book because it’s slower paced and more character focused? I’m going to love it, hopefully But then if someone is gushing about it and including quotes, and it just doesn’t feel like something up my alley, then I know it’s not for me Then the one in the middle solidifies how I feel, idk
Depends on the person imo. For me personally, I read reviews to help me narrow down my TBR but I usually immediately forget them. Even if I remember them, unless they have spoilers, I don’t think it really changes the reading experience, and I am capable of forming my own opinion on books. The only exception is if someone points out something I didn’t notice (but that’s usually only applicable after I’ve read it)
Probably true because I've let reviews convince me to not read books too many times. But if I get to the middle of a book and don't like it I like to look at the reviews and then I either feel vindicated if they dislike the book for the same reason as me, or they convince me to keep reading if they say it gets better.
