oooh im in the middle of reading that too. just finished gate of the feral gods. i was reading at work and a client (also dcc fan) recommended to me that i read "he who fights with monsters" unfortunately i have NO idea if thats also fun or lighthearted. the title sounds super serious.
Discworld! They’re not really litrpg like dcc, but still fun. Some of them do have more serious themes but they’re pretty short and super compelling. And Terry Pratchett is the goat of fantasy, his writing is super clever and funny at the same time. I’ll second Cradle as well, it’s pretty ya in the beginning, but stick with it, the books are short for that as well and it doesn’t take too many books to get really good
I’ve actually heard really good things about he who fights with monsters (haven’t read it yet tho), it kinda sounds like a book you either absolutely love or dnf with no middle ground. Also sounds like it’s pretty obvious early on, so it wouldn’t hurt to pick it up from the library and try for yourself in case you’re one of the people it works for
it’s very polarizing, i personally cannot stand the mc because he sounds like a 30 year old incel redditor who every character thinks is so amazing. it’s just a typical self insert book with 0 depth so if that’s your thing then go for it, but i personally prefer my self inserts to be less annoying and whiny.
I don’t know if they have a physical copy, but it’s on my library’s libby as both ebook and audiobook. I do live in a medium size town tho. Also you can get libby access to different libraries across the country and find it that way too. It’s super helpful, especially with books like this that I’m not sure if I’ll like or not or are little more niche and I don’t want to spend money on it
