It’s so hard to make reader friends bc so many people just wanna play “I’m the most intellectual reader” game instead of reading for enjoyment

Yeah, I think it’s a problem when people try to take all intellectual things out of reading though. ie. “it’s not that deep” or “reading shouldn’t be political” etc

Yeah, I guess I don’t understand what you’re trying to say then. Like people who only think you should read nonfiction? Or people who think you should only read literary fiction?

I’m saying it’s hard making book friends bc all I ever find are people who are like “well I read 100 books a year minimum and they’re all classics” and look down on people who read romance and like 20 books a year. And I say this as someone who reads 80% literary fiction and average 80 books a year

ah, yeah. I really don’t like genre police or people who look down on others for how many they read a year. It’s hard to find book friends who are a bit more relaxed

I mean, isn’t it based off of preference tho? If you read, mostly you keep it to yourself unless someone kinda shows interest, or at least thats how I am. I’ll talk about whatever, but what I want to read is completely up to me. What you read is on you tho.
