Big fan of both. I see where people are coming from when they said that ballad was written better because of the point of view and the type of character snow is but I think Sunrise is just as well written for different reasons. Suzanne’s commentary through her characters is stellar and I think she provides a ton of context for characters in the original series

i can’t get through the ballad of songbirds and snakes, it puts me to sleep every time I try to read it

Yah she should have cut off about 50-100 ish pages imo cause ballad did drag towards the end. The last 30 ish pages of sunrise were depressing REAL

I thought it was boring and stupid at first but it really surprised me and I ended up enjoying it immensely

I agree it’s not as fast paced as the other hunger games novels and is a bit bloated but I felt it was worth reading for the interesting moral questions it explores and how complexly the characters are written on both sides.

It honestly read like a classic at times and I really enjoyed it. It’s become my favorite of the series which is crazy since I HATED it at first and almost skipped it.
