So I’m starting book 4 of Dungon Crawler Carl, in less than a week since I started the series, and idk how I feel. Anybody else read the series?

I’ve read book 1 and thought it was fine (I didn’t dislike it but didn’t feel as strongly about it as some other folks). I do plan on audiobooking the rest of the series on road trips bc the narrator honestly crushes it.

Yeah, I’ve read a lot of “international video game based light novels” so this is like that to a T. That said, I think there’s something to be said, about how the book feels like it’s constantly searching to be an edgier version of itself, and that’s fine, it sticks with the brand, but it also feels like how many dead baby jokes do you need before they all just kinda fall flat.

That’s totally valid lmao and I do think the series may be a smidge overhyped, but I’m really happy it’s getting people into reading. I’ve just read better written books that are less repetitive.

Yeah, like I found the first two very fun and engaging to read, but I feel like by book 3 we’ve jumped the shark and it’s feeling a bit less inspired. I’m a huge reader and have read tons of the tropes down flat, so was a little surprised when the book didn’t go for the ending I was anticipating, it’s nice, but also kinda grating that I felt like they had a better ending and didn’t pick it.
