Do people on here read nonfiction? I’ve been on here for a while but I’ve never really seen people talking about nonfiction books, but maybe I’ve missed it🤷‍♀️

I do! I read primarily political theory and history. Right now, I've been reading more anti-colonialism works from Latin America and the Middle East. Currently making my way through America, América by Greg Grandin Yeah I haven't seen much discussion here about non-fiction, kinda surprising given how huge this community is

I think people do but it’s not really talked about much. I personally have read a lot for school that I actually enjoyed quite a bit

I’ve noticed that it gets way less engagement than the more popular genres at the moment

Only for particular authors tbh. I’m on my Rachel Maddow grind rn

Yeah that’s fair. Assigned readings can really introduce you to a lot of authors/topics that you might not have been exposed to otherwise

Awesome!!! I love reading about history and political theory! Rn I’m reading a book about the founding of the OSS and it’s great so far Ikr! It’s been really surprising to me that there hasn’t been much engagement with nonfiction here :/

Yeah. I feel like the vast majority of what I see on here is fantasy and romance, which is totally fine, just not really what I’m into, and kinda surprising given how large this group is🤷‍♀️

That’s totally fair. Certain authors are able to communicate nonfiction subjects in a way that is so entertaining, and it can be hard to branch out once you find one like that

Oh neat! What's the most surprising thing you've learned so far?

I def feel like that’s what’s trending right now from booktok and such. I haven’t seen much nonfiction stuff either

Not necessarily surprising, but it was funny to learn about how the original director/idea man of the OSS overheard an admiral at a party talking about how the OSS was a joke, and then proceeded to get operatives to plant fake dynamite in secret ammunitions reserves and steal the admiral’s private papers which he then presented to the admiral at the end of the party lol

Yeah, I kinda figured people would downvote it so I tried to be as kind and deliberate as possible🤣 people in this group can be so reactionary. It’s so weird

Yeah, I don’t disagree. It feels like most posts here are very centered around popular booktok series. I think I’m gonna try to post more from now on to kinda encourage more nonfiction discussion. Don’t feel like I can complain too much when I hardly ever post lol
