Gotta be so honest I feel like someone’s lying, someone’s exaggerating. I get it as a preference but CANT????? (No offense to you I just genuinely can’t believe it I can’t wrap my head around that)

I went to a really bad school district where any time I tried to read a book in third person they would call me stupid and take the book away from me. I know I can read third person but one of the reasons I haven’t chose to read a book in third person since is because of that encounter.

I’ve heard this too and I wonder if it’s a boomer or gen Xer exaggerating like: Gen Z: I prefer books written in 1st person Boomer/Gen X: The kids these days REFUSE to read 3rd person and are LITERALLY UNABLE to comprehend it

i feel like it’s really just coming from people who don’t like to read 😭 like most books are written in third person ? i get preferring to read one first compared to third but how are we having difficulty or refusing reading it 😭 prayers tho

I feel more connected to the story and the characters when it’s in first person. Third person I feel like an outsider and not really like connected with the book if that makes sense

yikes, some of my favorites are 3rd person but i’m big on the classics. Are a lot of the modern popular series in 1st person?

I saw on TikTok that it’s party a symptom of a shitty English education, with how some kids aren’t learning/struggling to learn to read in school (teaching sight words over phonics 😔) + the impact of covid, reading 1st person is easier than 3rd so many kids are avoiding 3rd person books

I can read third person, but I prefer first person tbh because sometimes I get confused as to whose head we’re in (this is especially a problem when it’s third person omniscient and/or there’s head hopping within chapters). Plus idk I just don’t like the distance it puts between the reader and the narrative voice, makes it harder for me to get engaged

wasn’t harry potter 3rd person?? and i feel like so many people have read that series over many different generations. i think so was divergent? i mean let me know if there are others that come to mind but like cmon… the newspaper, tv shows, movies, articles, history books are all mostly 3rd person (bc unless you are seeing only your body and hands, if you can see the main character, it’s 3rd person- and ik that’s visual but still)

What do you mean any time you tried they would take it away? Could you elaborate?

I don’t believe they can’t either but apparently they absolutely and willingly refuse to read third person for some reason. Honestly I’m stumped as to why

Basically like if they saw the book and they knew it was third person they would physically rip the book out of my hand and they wouldn’t give it back and no matter how many times I tried to ask for it back politely they would say no. I went to a really weird school district.

I think there’s been increasingly more 1st person books in the past 20 yrs but there’s still plenty of 3rd person

I prefer 1st person but I still read 3rd person (characters and plot are way more important than 1st vs 3rd). I really can’t believe that ppl can’t read 3rd because that’s how news articles and broadcasted news segments work. 3rd person was the default in book for a long time because it’s such a natural way of communicating

Like idk if I’ve ever put down a book because it’s specifically third person, but if someone gave me the choice of two books and I knew nothing other than one was first person and one was third person, I’d choose the first person

i’m just thinking of popular books that i feel like a lot of people have read so those were the ones that came to mind that applied

i mean this is less widespread like harry potter but TOG was 3rd person pretty sure. OH OH heroes of olympus was too (and i assume then percy jackson). others im seeing on my bookshelf: chronicles of narnia, lunar chronicles, school for good and evil, etc (again im just looking for ones that i think were pretty popular). also i feel like plenty of children’s book are 3rd person?? i mean literally those bob books

No Percy Jackson was first person. “I didn’t choose to be a demigod” was the first line iirc
