What’s making it worse is that I really only picked it up bc my cousin (who’s only 5 months younger than me) is on the third book and kept gushing about it and now I’m just. Questioning her taste.

Lowkey I felt the same, I didn't understand the hype at first, but after the second book is when it became my fav series. I hate when people say that so I understand if it's truly not for you but if you're somewhat intrigued by the ending give the second book a shot!

i’ve never read it but i’m just bitter over the butterfly effect that acotar indirectly caused to book culture as a whole so i’ll never read it out of spite

also I should add that the book does a 180 on the last 50 or so pages and that's kind of more what the rest of the series is like

I’m gonna finish it out and possiblyyyy give the second book a shot. Like im trying so hard to not be a book snob bc lord fourth wing is what got me back into reading after many many years without touching a book but like I lowkey cannot stand feyre

i think it affected the romantasy genre the worst overall with an emphasis on overly relying on tropes to carry your story. i also unfortunately use tiktok too much so i see quite a few books where someone is selling a novel on “spice level” and “enemies to lovers (but they were actually never enemies they just mildly disliked each other)”

and look i have no problem with sex in books but if someone is promoting a book and mentions “spice” im going to assume the writing is lackluster tbh
