I’ve noticed that many authors have started to use morally grey as an excuse for MMC to be absolutely horrible to female characters and everyone near them when morally grey are just complex characters

Specifically in mafia romances morally grey they take it too far, enemies to lovers (most of the time it’s just one sided bullying and the girl forgives them after one sorry ass apology), insta lust, and I know this isn’t a trope but the books that are labeled bdsm are just watered down fifty shades of grey

If there’s even an apology at all, just “oh I liked you and that made me mad” or they just do something nice like it solves everything

Or the girl will tell bring up a situation where he made her feel like shit and he’ll say “that wasn’t my intention I’m sorry” but we know it was fully his intention bc how do you accidentally slut shame someone and make them feel like a second option???
