One time I read a book as I was recovering from surgery (high on pain meds) and I thought it was the best book I’d ever read, I recommend it to everyone for like a year. I don’t usually like sci-fi, but this book was so game changing, it was the only sci-fi book I ever really loved. Reread it last month sober… omg it’s so bad. I sincerely apologize to everyone I recommended it to. (Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer)

It was the BOTM book, Worry Doll. I loved the concept of it but how it was written made me dislike it

The book is dogwater. Bunch of incest in ye old English with a stupid ass plot and unlikeable characters

the book is good #4 probably thought it was going to be a cheesy dark romance like 50 shades it’s grotesque and brutal like it was intended to be. are the characters insufferable? yeah. but that’s like the whole point of cathy and heathcliff they’re shitty people that can’t get enough of each other

it’s not incest it’s WEIRD because it’s SUPPOSED TO BE but they’re not siblings and they’re raised more like punching bags just say you can’t comprehend literature. you’re dissing EMILY BRONTË for writing in her time period about things happening in her time period you sound dumb.

All these can be true and one can still not enjoy the story because liking a book is subjective

Bruh miss me with that “you can’t comprehend literature” bs. It’s written in ye old English and I was forced to read it as a 13 yo and I hated it, which is what the post is about. Yes I might not understand it as well as a fan would but you can leave the bad attitude at home

im leaving my bad attitude right here miss if you couldn’t understand a book you were TAUGHT to understand then that’s an even bigger issue

disliking a book is one thing criticizing a book calling it “dogwater” because it was written in the language of the time is just ignorance and stupidity so sorry but if you can’t grasp a storyline of a book in ENGLISH class you can’t critique it online and tell people things about it that just aren’t true.

You the fucking art police? This shit is old and British and we learned about it in school so we’re all supposed to know the universal truth that it’s a good book? And if you dislike it then you are just an idiot? Save it honestly
