I get this because I just can’t take it seriously sometimes. Like wdym you’re gonna fall in love with a serial killer? What makes you think he’s not gonna kill you when he gets bored of you??

They couldn’t be labeled romance if they went their separate ways. Like it’s literally a required genre convention for romance that they end up together. There are some dark romances that are just abuse romanticization, but the genre has a lot of great material where the setting/themes are dark, but the romance is not. You just gotta find the right ones.

What kind of romance do you like? Like do you want dark paranormal, mafia, fantasy, etc?
