And there’s nothing wrong with that, there are definitely books/genres that I strongly dislike myself. What some people can’t get through their heads for whatever reason is that you can hate something without hating/discounting the people who like it. I love fantasy, my bestie loves classics. Neither of us are right, wrong, or better than the other
i also think people tend to miss the fact that YA books aren’t classified as being for teens, they’re for Young Adults. even if we read them when we were teens, we currently ARE the target demographic for YA books. read whatever the hell you want!! reading is supposed to be FUN, it takes the fun out of it when you’re ashamed of a book you enjoy <3 🫵🫵
like for a WHILE sjm was classified as ya when just based off the content of her books (the smut) she should have been classified as adult fantasy. and while i dont like sjm i think this happens to a lot of female fantasy writers. like if a man wrote the same book it would be high fantasy but since a woman wrote it, its considered ya
*Readers are readers no matter what, how, or *why* they read. I mostly do it just for fun or distraction. Doesn’t make me understand the plot or intricacies any less/hamper my enjoyment. Reading is supposed to be fun, and readers should do everything they can to make that so for them. Good on you that it makes you happy to only read critically, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I would say the majority of readers read more casually and there’s nothing wrong with that either
