I’m looking forward to the sequel to The Giver called The Getter where he just goes into random people’s houses and gets things

And I can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy, The Keeper, where he just becomes a hoarder

Can’t wait for the part where he says “it’s getting time” and gets all over the place

I do love that the villain is just like the devil

I mean it’d be a better ending than the actual ending of the series lol

Ngl, I didn’t even know there were other books in that series…. I thought it was just The Giver 😭

There were 4 books. The 2nd and 3rd were good but the 4th was a miss imo

I’m never gonna read them most likely, but this is quite the info I’m learning

Fair enough. Just make sure to read the getter and the keeper when they come out

Yeah no it was really fucking lazy. The villain in the first two books was pretty clearly the totalitarian regimes they lived under but then midway through the last book they were like “nope it’s satan. Kill him and all good is restored to the world”

LITERALLY! Like it was so interesting to see how the utopia had delved deep into the slippery slope fallacy and taken it all to the extreme and how do you dismantle and come back from that and then the answer is kill the devil and therefore everything is okay

Exactly. The shitty part about it is that they kinda gestured at the idea of the trader guy being a metaphor for materialism or capitalism but the did absolutely nothing with it. I get that they live in a world where some people just have superpowers but it doesn’t make it any less lazy when you introduce satan. Still though I’ve never seen any other franchise go from 1984 at the beginning to Doom by the end so good for them I guess they proved it could be done
