I’m an adult who never read the mortal instrument series as a kid- is it an okay read? I know some books ppl have fond memories of bc the are nostalgic but are high key bad. I’ve been recommended it but I’m hesitant

I’d say okay read is the best descriptor. It’s not horrible, but not good. The clockwork series is god tier tho and it can be hard to understand if you don’t have the background from tmi

Ugh I’m so torn. I really like some parts of the very first trilogy (particularly a certain character’s conflict between their father and their adoptive family) but I can’t recommend it solely because of the love interests’….interesting dynamic. The Infernal Devices is, however, one of my favorite series, so I highly recommend that one.

Eh. Maybe it's worth skimming? Iirc it's exciting at times but a lot of cringey teen angst

Honestly it’s the weakest series in the like world of shadowhunters. I think the others are with it though

That’s the one with Magnus right? I love the concept of his character and is one of my main motivators in reading it lol

No that takes place in like the 1850s or something. It’s a prequel trilogy and really the only romance I liked as a teen

The Infernal Devices does have Magnus though! I don’t think that’s a big spoiler since dude is like eternal or whatever so he’s bound to show up in all the other books (I think, I haven’t read past TID yet)
