I wanted to love the Fourth Wing series so much but I just finished Iron Flame and started Onyx Storm today. Thinking of DNF’ing. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah. I almost DNFed FW many times but ended up finishing it. It was so poorly written and unoriginal, it had no heart in it. I don’t get the hype.

I finished Fourth Wing for my aunt. It was alright for me, but I definitely was dragging through the end. Couldn’t get through the first part of Iron Flame before DNF’ing it

I really enjoyed all of them, but I have EDS the condition that Violet has so it’s really neat to see a character have a chronic illness/rare disease that I struggle with and the way that it’s handled.

I think as I get older I am starting to reach for more political fantasy instead of solely Romantasy so this serious just can’t keep me entertained anymore 🤷‍♀️

Same. I usually enjoy a lot more high end fantasy and both romantasy and romance are usually a hit or miss for me, even if it’s just a pleasure read

i would say that in book 3 and supposedly in book 4 coming up things get a lot more political and more plot driven. i would say the first book is more a fun romance plot (with the subplots of the war/venin) while the 3rd book goes deeper into that, and also gives clues to more info about the dragons, the original 6, and violets silver hair!! but if you DNF i do not blame you at all Onyx Storm took me awhile to get thru.

I also have hyper mobility and think it was handled poorly, however I’m aware I have niche experiences that might affect my experience with the book. I’ve been horse riding for my entire life, and just thought RY did a poor job handling the disability rep. It seems like a gimmick that’s only used during convenient times and to try to justify writing Violet to be small and align with gender norms.

I hate how people justify Violet being small and little with her disability. I know so many tall people with EDS. Feels like RY just wanted a reason for Violet to be the whole “oh I’m so small and little and frail and tiny but not like other girls” and she became a very obvious Mary Sue who is overpowered, with a hot man, and is yet another copy of Daenerys Targaryen. I’m ranting now, but I feel like people use the presence of the disability as a shield for criticism. Ignore me

I’m stuck around page 60 and realized that I kept dreading picking it back up

I usually push through because I hate DNF’ing but I don’t want to waste my time on a book I don’t like

Especially because it is so long! I guess I’ll wait to see how the next book is reviewed💀
