Start with some short stories! If you jump into dense classical literature books blindly, you can start a novel you don’t appreciate or enjoy the writing style of. By reading the shorter works of classical literature authors you can see what their style is like before fully committing to a novel, I promise it helps.

That is sound advice and hopefully it works for some people, but unfortunately my problem isn’t with comprehension of the content but the content itself. Nothing seems to happen in classics and I find myself incredibly bored. There’re too many books on my tbr to spend a bunch of time on something im not enjoying. I will happily sit through Jordan or Tolkien describing a tree for six pages because action is happening elsewhere in the book, but haven’t found that to be the case with bronte
