Hot take. Some things are okay only in books! Personally books that involve grape really help me as someone who experienced it because I do not feel alone. The books where you can see how it affected the character because I understand. I can get behind no 1ncest or pdf tho 💀

And tbf pdf and incest are not even close to most of dark romance. I know 0 dark romance readers who are into either. And I follow a good number of dark romance influencers. Those are often just thrown in to bring down the entire genre. When a lot of it (the stuff I enjoy) is dark in theme but the romance is still sound and consensual. Non and dub con are popular, but they also pretty damn clearly state what you’re going into. And people are 100% free not to read that content.

Honestly now that you mention it, I don’t think I have really seen any dark romance with those themes! This is why tws exist and why people need to listen to it.

That’s the thing is rape does mean dark romance unless the mmc is raping the FMC. I think it is good to educate people about those experiences through literature but the issue is they just write a rape scene then in the next chapter we completely ignore the fact that a character got raped or sexually assaulted

I think this TikTok was talking about Penelope Douglas lowkey bc wtf was credence 😨 I didn’t read it but from what I’ve heard it’s borderline incest like yeah the dad is adopted so they aren’t blood related but you still called that man uncle and those are your cousins 🫩

This, and also TWs are getting more popular LARGELY due to dark romance authors, dark fanfic writers, and queer creators. Like you wouldn’t be able to pick through content warnings and decide if a book is right for you based on tiggers if it wasn’t for dark romance authors pushing them to the front and trying their damndest to help people read only what they feel comfortable. So while there are some issues w the genre, it has done a ton of good in terms of normalizing TWs!
