What's the movie/show you watched that's BETTER than the book it's based on?
reading the Vampire Chronicles and being reminded Louis is a white slave owner in the book and not the sexy black man on my tv screen

Like, IwtV is great, but the book definitely doesn’t feel as fleshed-out and nuanced as the tv show

Jaws, 100% If you're thinking of reading the book, just....don't

For me Station Eleven, although I loved both, I think because I saw the show before reading the book I liked it better. Also I haven't read IwtV but I loved the show and learning that Louis owned slaves in the books made me not want to read them lol

I’m Thinking of Ending Things. The movie resonated with me so deeply, but when I read the book I was just like huh. Okay

I couldn’t do that attempt at justifying grooming and incest. Maybe the tv show is better

Honestly, it’s so out of left-field in the novel. I saw S1 first where NONE of that happens and reading the book I was like, “…what’s going on? Why is this happening?” and then I was just further confused because the sequel book just AMPS UP the weird incest that has no bearing on the rest of the plot

EXACTLY. It was so out of nowhere, it was so traumatizing I remember exactly where it started, page 103…They really didn’t need him to have a weird relationship with a girl who was basically his daughter. IT WAS LITERALLY CRADLE ROBBING

Literally took a little kid from her house and called her his daughter then proceeded to have a really uncomfortable relationship with her for the entire book…

I remember complaining to my mom about it like, “yeah, I get Claudia as a character is child frozen in time cuz Anne Rice’s daughter died and it was like her daughter froze at that age in AR’s mind, and then she deconstructs the fantasy of an immortal child because a child could never stay a child forever and be happy trapped like that… but then wtf is Louis calling his daughter a paramour and kissing her like he didn’t raise her? The metaphor is LOST. I’m so confused why it’s in there”

The TV show really is better tho imo and I recommend it to everyone! Claudia is physically aged up to 14 (with an 18+ actress), doesn’t get with either of her parents like that, and the tv show makes a point to acknowledge the unhealthy relationships in the series, especially in instances of DV or abusive relationships. I found it overall a really beautiful story of someone who isn’t a perfect victim finally able to acknowledge the grief he’s experienced
