I’m sorry, but I genuinely don’t understand not wanting to read a book just because it’s told in third person. Please someone explain this to me because I could not care less what POV a story is told in so long as it’s well written.

Honestly I feel more that way about first person than third. But I won’t not read a book because it’s in first person, it just takes me longer to get into. I also just prefer third person because I tend to enjoy books with huge worlds and tons of characters

I think it’s just a vibes preference for people who lean strongly in one direction. I don’t really get it either, I just want the POV to fit for the book. But I don’t think it’s deeper than some people just vibing with one or the other more. It also sometimes has to do with the genre (a lot of folks prefer first person POV for romance, but don’t like it in fantasy etc).

it’s a preference thing, personally I don’t understand it at all since it blocks you from reading SO many books (including ones that mix third/first), but to each their own

I genuinely cannot read books in first person, it reads to me like fanfiction and makes everything feel so much less engaging, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve never heard anybody say anything against third person though

i honestly don’t understand everyone not liking first person or not liking third person. we forgot about the true enemy: second person

I wrote several short stories in second person, and they always ended up sounding so creepy, so I just leaned into it at one point

I love horror in the second person but I’ve yet to find a good second person example in other genres
