i hate that most romantasy books released nowadays feel like someone played fantasy mad libs and then picked a bunch of tropes out of a bag. where’s the flavor anymore?

Mild spice, a few tropes but so unique you hardly notice them.

I feel like romantasy books all have the same formula now too. There’s the girl who got brought into that life despite thinking she was human and the love interest a couple besties a gay/bi/lesbian character and a crazy powerful being that is a jerk but they love them anyway

Romantasy used to be about more fantasy than romance but now romance isn’t even the sup plot it’s the only plot point in the book like we don’t even have world building anymore 🤦🏽‍♀️

And even the tropes just feel watered down to whatever idea you make them to be in general..

Same, once in a while one will be good but most of them are trope soup.

its always “the fmc who is special because she… can talk to inanimate objects… and goes to… the… flying carpet academy… is a prodigy because her mom was secretly also a flying carpet rider, and she fixes the government. only one bed height gap 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ spice level knife to throat scene touch her and die enemies to lovers forbidden love fated mates sexy tall boy morally gray dark romance shadow daddy age gap banter grumpy sunshine like forth wing! but like what is it actually about?

It’s always “for fans of Fourth Wing” I don’t want another one. It sucked the first time. Also. Why is the fmc always short? Can we please have one that is over 5’8? I know for a fact not everyone reading is 4’11 or 5’2

All commercial genres are a specific shape of story bones… a great story is the flesh and dressing that doesn’t make you think about the bones 🦴

I like that viewpoint because I fully agree. I just don’t think it’s being done super well anymore. There are just too many stories that the only difference is tiny subplots and the main plot feels to be way too generic. I don’t think I’ve read a book with a unique plot in so long

So true… publishers throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks or has some viral surge on booktok

Exactly. I’m almost 6 foot and I’ve found ONE romantasy with a tall fmc.

YES!!! I’m so sick of reading the same book over and over again with only small changes in details. Even ACOTAR feels way too similar to other books I’ve read. I need something more😭

Don’t be shy share the series!!!! I’m 5’9 and I NEED to find a character that I can actually envision to look similar to me

The Jasad Heir Sylvia is tall and on the more muscular side!
