How do you rate books, with a specific system or more based on vibes? I’m of the latter, I can have found nothing wrong with a book but if I didn’t enjoy it as much as a book I gave 4.5, it gets a 4.25. And 5 stars kinda distinguish themselves

I mostly focus on how engaged I was, how much I like the idea/world, and then the characters.

Normally I rate on how much I like it but also consider the quality of writing at the same time. I physically cannot ignore that aspect

I rate based on vibes, but if you wanna talk specifics, it has a lot to do with language and flow. Also spelling. I hate seeing the word “defiantly” cause I know what follows definitely doesn’t fit what they’re trying to say (I read a lot of fanfic and have noticed a lot of books don’t use either word as much as fanfics do)

I like this approach, by focusing more on enjoyment over a more objective “checklist” type system it feels like a much better representation of personal taste and style

Yeah, for me I don’t really think books can fit into everyone’s checklists, so as long as it stays with you in a good way, like thinking about certain moments or characters every now and then even after reading, it’s a good book to me :)

same!! a big thing for me is spelling. i despise seeing words spelled wrong in books, it feels cheap/lacking in effort? idk how to really explain it
