Okay asking people who loved Binding and Keeping 13. What’s up with the new book? I’ve heard the author is getting hate and I want to know people who love the series opinion

Being a victim doesn’t excuse writing explicit child SA. It’s gross. I love books about perseverance and series like BOT but this is too far. Actually vile. THREE CSA scenes. In a YA series. Gross

I know she said it was her own story, but that’s absolutely no excuse for writing sexual material about a child. I have never once thought about writing explicit material inspired by my experience with CSA and grooming.

Okay that’s on a whole other level compared to the other books. I get why people are upset now

Yeah, I think it’s disgusting. And people are defending it by saying she’s telling her own story. Or that it’s to appeal to survivors. Well it should have been a memoir then. Depicting children like that is really gross. I guarantee that most of the people defending that aspect of the book are not in fact survivors. I would never dream of depicting CHILDREN like that.

Yeah I mean societal issues are talked about in literature, and should be, but that’s something else. I agree a memoir would have been better if she wanted to share her story. Or she couldn’t made the scenes less explicit or been open and warn readers so they didn’t just come across that blind, especially since it could be triggering to them due to past experiences

I feel like people who are enjoying this book specifically are the type who like what can basically be described as “trauma p*rn” and want to grotesqueness and shock factor. It’s just vile at this point

Yeah, I feel like explicit, graphic CSA scenes were not the way to go about this. I get critiquing it and portraying what it does to a person but THREE full scenes is gross.

Yeah I mean I’ve read books where you know that’s part of what happened to a character and it’s discussed and it’s affects shown but nothing is ever explicit of when it happened

Like there are better ways to address the issue

Exactly, especially when children are involved.
