I feel like the Audra winter thing really highlights how important it is for writers to have (had) a fanfiction phase. You learn a lot writing fanfic and being on a public platform where people can give you advice

This is so real. I learned a lot from my old Wattpad commenters. Really highlighted how self-centered I wrote a particular LI, so in the published version, I’ve updated a tonnn to make him more understanding etc. I value my online readers SO much for their honesty. It’s definitely made me a better author.

Girl it’s so much you’re gonna have to look up the tea. Short version, indie author ignored the feedback from publishers and editors because she was so deep into her own ego that she thought her book was perfect and published it. The marketing was really well done and now the almost 8k people who preordered it are mad because it was so badly written. Like grammatical errors and redundancy out the ass

A lot of the publishing community will tell you not to read your reviews (most times because reviewers get occasionally attacked by a bitchy author who doesn’t respect readers). I do read my reviews—though I NEVER respond to or post about reviewers—because I feel they help me improve my next book(s). It’s not quite the same, but I appreciate anyone who takes time to leave feedback. Writing is a craft. You can stagnate or improve it like any other skill.
