As an indie author working with many platforms, Amazon pays authors the most and is the easiest to use. Not everything is black and white when it comes to Amazon. Do they keep screwing authors over in other ways? Yes. But so is B&N press, draft 2 digital (screwing authors the most right now), and Ingram. If you want to support indies that don’t have their work elsewhere, Amazon is actually very good for them.
I’m not specifically talking about the book section of Amazon or whatever, im talking about Amazon as a whole. Sure, if they pay their authors that’s great, but you can’t ignore all of the shitty other things the company does that are so bad I couldn’t even imagine supporting them.
That’s a fine decision for you to make for yourself. Amazon’s CEOs are evil and their monopoly on online shopping is borderline illegal. However, I know disabled people who wouldn’t get certain necessities without it. They are paying for one of my friends’ to go to grad school and give her paid time for it. They’re also one of the best avenues for indie authors, who are often queer and BIPOC authors pushed out by trad pub, to find success and get paid. Nuance exists for a reason.
