my eyes just dart to the dialogue but then i go back and read the part i skipped 😭

eh, the dialogue usually gets the point of the book across and cuts out most of the filler anyway.

Have you ever read any McCarthy? Feel like it’d be a nightmare trying to determine what was dialogue and what wasn’t with his style if you just skim for it.

I’ve read most McCarthy and my strategy works out just fine.

But what if the character is lying? What if they’re unreliable? What if their main conflict is self vs self? How would you grasp all of that from just the dialogue?
