Sometimes it’s not even a choice the author makes it’s the publisher so they definitely do

As an author, yeah sometimes and sometimes pen names too (mine is very similar to a way more popular author, I would change it if I didn’t have 8+ things published under it)

I know of one author who does, because he literally published it to test Amazon’s self publishing system, and it kinda blew up. So he’s literally made this massive franchise of over 150 novellas and several novels with the name “Star Force”.

I need to get to writing because sometimes people get lucky and their work becomes popular.

In fairness, what happened to him was like the smallest “going viral” imaginable. So what he did was write and publish an entire fucking novella every two weeks for like two whole years. Apparently, it paid the bills, though it was VERY slow reading. When he switched to (only) a novella a month, the series really picked up

It rarely happens, unless you’re killer at marketing, have money to put into ads, or are just super lucky. Don’t write with the expectation of success. Write because you have a story to tell.

I love writing, but I’ve always had low hopes for myself.

Either you will make it big, or you won’t. You probably won’t, but you may. Only guarantee is that you won’t if you don’t write.
