Sizzling hot take: everyone hates on Colleen Hoover’s books so much for being filled with smut and slop that I read Verity out of curiosity expecting to be making fun of it at the end. But I actually thought it was well-written and intriguing. Thoughts?

Verity is one of her only semi decent ones to the point where some people theorize it was ghost written. Also more of the hate has to do with the fact that her son sexually harassed someone and when she came forward, Colleen blocked her. Plus some of the icky themes in her romance plots.

I think Verity is her one book that people collectively agree is good, probably because it’s a thriller and not a romance

(I don’t judge folks for enjoying her work when her books do get ppl into reading, but I personally won’t read her books)

The rest of her books write about taboo topics in a sexual, and non-critical light. Sexualizing incest, rape, pedophilia, etc.; shock content for a naive audience of readers. People don’t read her because they like her writing, they want to be shocked. I could describe each and every plot line she’s ever written and you would be sickened.

I’m not saying this as if the content shouldn’t be in books, but that the manner in which she writes and executes it is the issue.
