its interesting how the onus is placed on the children here "teachers should learn to make reading a pleasure for students, not just work they expect them to do"

It all starts with parents reading to their kids before they even get to pre-k and making sure to continue that until like 4th grade and even then, still try to foster that love as time goes on. Then, teachers have an easier job bc kids have actually read a book before and maybe like it

i used to LOVE reading. i’ve gotten in trouble several times because of how much i immersed myself in books and ignored the real world 😭. but then high school started banning all the good books and forced me to read and analyze the same thing over and over until i got disinterested and lost one of my favorite hobbies. i graduated years ago and trying to get back into it now

The onus should really be on the parents.

it should be on all the adults - it takes a village. parents will understandably struggle if teachers are just giving kids busy reading, and vice versa teachers will struggle if parents don't inspire/encourage their kiddos. kids are responsible too, but we understand that (young) children can't be held to that because they have to be taught it first. therefore the onus is on all the adults responsible for their education, including teachers
