Question! Where would be the best places to stay up to date on new books/authors, and anything book related really? I’m definitely not getting a job at a bookstore, but if I ever DID want one, I figure I’d need to know all that stuff

Get to know some of the librarians at your local library!! We get regular shipments from publishers and distributors, and we'll be glad to share what we know! And don't think you're being nosy or asking too much, it's quite literally the job to talk books lol

I used goodreads and all their articles, also the knowledge of my fellow booksellers. I got pretty damn good at knowing a lot about all the genres

This. I follow a few publishers too, like tor and orbit, and have learned about a bunch of books that way

also following indie bookstores, even if you don’t live around them (I live in STL and left bank books and novel neighbors are excellent). they’ll have author spotlights, author events (to keep track of new releases) and the ones I follow post all the new releases they order every Tuesday
