how can i get into reading as someone who hasn’t really read a full book since middle school? i used to love reading but then i got the gifted kid burnout and now i just have a shelf of books i’ve never read. i just can’t seem to be able to sit and read.

setting up a nice picnic date for yourself would set the vibes to dive into a good book(s). if the weathers permitting and you have no allergies,.! though maybe NOT in your back/frontyard so you arent tempted to say ugh forget abt this and go inside

Pick a book from a genre that you know you love! If you love watching horror, pick that, if you love watching rom coms pick a romance book! What genres do you like? People can give tons of recommendations here

Also (I just had this arc like two years ago), do not hesitate to stop reading a book that you’re not excited to pick up. The best way to get back into reading is making it a habit, and that’s not gonna work if you’re reading something that you’re struggling to connect with, so start by picking books that sound exciting to you and if you get a few pages or chapters in and you’re drudging along and not wanting to read it, just stop and start another book instead

I brought a book with me everywhere, and purchased a good amount of books that I thought would interest me. If I was struggling to keep reading it, I switched books because it was usually that I didn’t like it enough for it to be a book to help me reform my relationship with reading

I honestly got back into reading by trying graphic novels. From there, it's like the momentum carried me back into novels and the dense non-fiction that I love to read normally. I still rotate between 2-3 books at a time, so if i can pick up something based on my mood rather than being solely committed to one book, which can be intimidating

Short story collections are good for this, feels less intimidating than picking up a whole book

bring a book with you everywhere!! you’d be surprised how often in your day you could pull out a book instead of pulling out your phone, just to read in short bursts while you have time

What really helped was travel. I take a train to visit my parents, so I would read on the train. Then, suddenly, I was finding myself WANTING to read, and I’d pick up a book and go to a cafe or a blanket in the sun

The first part imo is finding a book you’ll really, really enjoy and then making situations in which you can read
