Isn’t that the original way most books are/were written?
Anyone else hate books that are told in 3rd person narrative the WHOLE book. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice every now and then for a whole picture but this is the second book in a row that’s this damn pov and I’m trying not to dnf😭

While I’m not necessarily agreeing with OP’s dilemma, you would be surprised by how many classics are written in first person. Also present tense! Not as common but it’s there. A lot of people amount first person and present tense to newer romance books, but they have existed in classics for a while.

I’ve been reading Jane Eyre and it’s both in first person and present tense

This!! Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, Moby Dick, The Sun Also Rises, and so many more classics are first person (personally I it easier to engrange in first person perspective)
