Everyone upset that Louella wasn’t supposed to be white, but haymitch calls katniss sweetheart because katniss reminds him of her so I think the casting makes sense because they should look similar

Katniss also likely wasn’t supposed to be white tbf. Also you don’t have to look like someone to give similar vibes

The thing that bothers me is the whole thing of Lou Lou being from district 11 and that moment in the book felt very important to get across. I feel like they are going to not acknowledge what Collins was saying in the novel. Ofc, im sure they will have plenty of other things and we can expect it to be perfect tho

She was a character imo that race did matter for. I don’t think that the casting people for this movie are awful people I just personally wish they’d casted black actresses.

Yeah I agree. Tho I do love J Law as Katniss. Just like I could love these two actresses as Louella and Lou Lou

Yeah I agree. This fs isn’t the biggest deal ever of whitewashing casting, especially since they are trying to follow the previous cast, but it would’ve been so amazing if they broke tradition and followed the book closer

Lou Lou still is from 11, 11 is a diverse district but we’ve seen white people in 11 in past movies too. I think it’s even more of a cool plot point because it made it even harder to know that she’s a body double, proving the lengths the capitol would go to

alternatively, I don’t really internalize descriptions so I’m not sure of this but I assume Louella is from the seam, meaning the implication is that she’s of indigenous descent. it could also be super interesting commentary that they get a lighter skinned black person to “replace” an indigenous person and none of the white ass capital notices or can tell the difference

like obviously Suzanne doesn’t go into that in the book because it’s not the point, but it would’ve been an interesting opportunity for the movie to subtly explore the interchangeability of minorities in the eyes of oppressors and stuff like that

No I get that. I’m not saying I’m any kind of expert. But I get why people are kinda upset or disappointed. I wish they did the casting different for those two but that’s just my opinion it’s not the end all be all of casting lol
