You’re right but there’s so much more to this convo imo- 1. I hate when there’s so much weird unnecessary killing and violence in books in general just cause the author “can”, like 80% it’s not even written well or blends with the plot at all. 2. As long as that behavior isn’t carried over irl I don’t necessarily see a problem- and omg I just read the full post ur right people need to stop romanticizing real people based on FICTIONAL SMUT cause wtf do you mean the TALIBAN???

Meh no reason getting heated, everyone has their own opinions on stuff!

Honestly I think people just like the idea of men acting like a stereotypical guy. So many guys now are so soft and it’s nice reading about a rough around the edges type guy if that makes sense. Before people get mad I’m not saying soft guys are bad, just not for me

yea I guess I understand what you’re saying but someone be a hard around the edges person without making a living off of murder

True, but it’s like reading smut, you don’t agree with everything but with a little imagination you can turn it into what you want.

Also I read this line in a book where it was like “if anything happens to her I’d burn the whole world down to ash before following her into the flame” If a guy actually said that I would get the douche chills, but it was hot when reading it

ok yea I guess I understand that but there’s people on here who go way past that mindset. like I said in the post I saw someone on here commenting about how the taliban were hot. And I mean the real life taliban. There’s people who just blindly simp for these violent, terrible people no matter how awful they are

Yea that’s a bit too far, I agree

and to be fair I am a fan of morally gray characters (punisher, red hood etc). I’m just not a fan of showing the life they lead as this hot badass thing for people to simp over when all it really is is a life of hurting people

That’s totally fair, there is this good book (totally smut) by JT geissinger and it’s the second book of the series called carnal urges and the main guy character hurts people for a living but they frame it as he only kills other really bad people so it cancels out if that sounds like something you are interested in

Thank you for the rec but dark romance isn’t really my thing. I’m more of a sci fi guy. And also thanks for being so chill throughout the whole convo, a lot of ppl aren’t so thank you.

And yea vigilante stuff is a bit more complex. I was more so referring to mafia/assassin/organized crime romance

I’m not really heated tbh but I def could’ve worded the post better

And yea I understand ppl have their opinions and that’s fine. I just don’t like it when ppl get too influenced by this sort of thing, like with the Taliban example

It definitely is rage bait and lumping regular romance readers who read books with criminal LIs in with the 2 out of 10,000 that act out of pocket is ridiculous.

The generalization is very ridiculous but honestly I’m not surprised that there are people who would romanticize real horrible people and criminals based on media- remember when Dahmer dropped

People are doing that without books though. Like there were so many cases of women writing serial killers in jail long before the first serial killer romance. And those weren’t book girlies. Those were just unhinged people. Most readers know the difference between fiction and reality.
