I’ve seen a lot of people upset that the book is too angsty and just tragedy after tragedy, and claiming that it was mismarketed because they were expecting a Gideon The Ninth style “i’m going to pretend to dislike you” cheeky romance. But we were told from the beginning that it was not a romance, but a toxic relationship. We shouldn’t assume that “toxic” means hot and dark but overall healthy enemies to lovers. BOBITMS was absolutely a toxic relationship story, but it doesn’t romanticize it.
