I think V. E. Schwab books might fit. Maybe try Divine rivals also maybe?

The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson is a pretty solid fantasy book that might fit the bill

While I absolutely adore the Rithmatist (and just recommend it in general) I don’t know if I’d call it dark academia. It’s ya and reads like it even tho theres an evil creature and a school. Something more like Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo comes to mind for me
