Reading the box indulges in one of the messages the author is sending about how cruel they are. We think the Capital is so horrible for loving the games and putting so much into them and finding them so entertaining but we still enjoy these books and watching the games on screen And yes of course there are more messages and reasons we watch and read, but it is a near inescapable paradox that we love the books so much while hating the games’ existence while still loving seeing the games
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hunger Games turn into the next book like Animal Farm or 1984 or Fahrenheit 451 where people read it in the future to appreciate the life they have and freedoms they have while also analyzing the oppressive systems in the fiction to be able to relate them to their current time so history doesn’t repeat itself. It’s sad we can already see the Hunger Games come to life so soon
