I think it’s way better than Songbirds and Snakes

Agree to disagree, I think the Ballad was far better well written

I just find the Songbird characters to be impossible to ever root for considering what we already know about Snow. I feel Sunrise is better because we already know future Haymitch and get to see why he becomes that way.

That’s the point.

You aren’t supposed to “root” for the main character. Thats the point of the book. He’s not a good person, and you’re supposed to watch him spiral into insanity and make all the wrong choices.

And yet as a reader you still need to connect with the character somehow and I found I couldn’t connect with literally anybody in that book

Lucy Grey? It’s supposed to be a critical piece, so “connecting” with the characters isn’t really the point. But there are certain moments you can connect with despite Snow being a bad person. Losing family, choosing between a lover and your friends, choosing between doing the right or wrong thing, etc. It doesn’t tell you exactly how to feel like the other books. That’s the point.

Even though we never really saw or got any character development with those characters in sunrise? Only Maysilee got any development or real attention in the story. They were throwaway characters with not much substance. I read all the books for the first time all in a row and found the last to be the weakest writing wise. Imo ofc.

As a reader, I need to connect, if you did, I’m happy that you enjoyed it. I didn’t. And I agree those are all moment I could’ve connected /land yet, I didn’t.

Yes, even though we didn’t get a lot from them, there was a lot of emotional heart behind those characters and there dates were tragic to me. Even the ones we don’t see.
