Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher is short and sweet! It’s a historical fantasy about friendship and regret and it’s actually kind of adorable. It’s a novella just over a hundred pages so it’s easy to get through too

What flavor of fantasy do you like? Like are you looking for whimsy, gore, mythological, magical realism, multi-perspective, etc

Jade City (Green Bone Sage): Urban fantasy, mafia story, 1980’s ish fictional Japan, where clans control this material called Jade that gives them powers. The crux of the story is on the relationships and characters more so. In-clan power struggle, clan vs clan, and foreign influences and politics Either of Joe Abercrombies trilogies: Dark, gritty “low” fantasy (hardly any magic, feels very real and grounded), capturing the darker sides of humanity. Think modern Game of Thrones.

For sure Terry Pratchett, like someone else said, but also The Unwanted Prophet. It’s an indie book on Amazon

The Stormlight Archive is really good, very fantasy (no dragons but magic and war), and two very minor romance plots that aren’t the main focus at all. 10/10 always recommend

The poppy war and anyone who says it’s an enemies to lovers romance is genuinely reading SO far into all the wrong things

If you’re open to reading manga, there’s this series I’m currently reading called Witch Hat Atelier. It’s about girl who discovers that magic only requires pen and paper and explores the world of witches.

Dungeon Crawler Carl! Great story and even better humor. I’ve gotten my family and my friends to start reading this series and they all love it

it had some romance and some smut (like 2/5) but Fir Whom The Belle Tolls by Jaysea Lynn is an all time favorite

Reading One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig rn and it has perfect gothic fall vibes. Also one of the most unique magic systems I’ve ever read. It’s really good so far

I would consider warhammer to be SciFi

It’s science fantasy technically. Sci-fi I think is strictly more science elements present like Enders Game and Project Hail Mary (Book, movie was meh comparatively)

Lol that’s totally fair - I’d look into The Sunbearer Trials, The House in the Cerulean Sea, and All The Murmuring Bones those are some of my favorites =) as someone who prefers books where romance is not the main plot lol
