I feel like I’m missing something. But can someone please explain the hate on SJM- I’m genuinely confused. I wasn’t super excited about acotar or crescent city but Throne of Glass had great writing imo and I can’t imagine that author being terrible
People may hate on Sarah J. Maas’s writing, but You Do Not Yield had a deep impact on my fight with depression and is probably part of the reason I’m alive today. I do not read for how literarily good a book is. I read for how it makes me feel.

people claim that she is a zionist because they like to read too far into things and find an issue with every popular author that roams this earth

I didn’t know about the other stuff, I just personally avoid her books because they’re basically a fad and I’m sick of a lot of the fans. people are way too “my way or the highway” over them and I’ve had too many people try to force me to try them again because I’ll suddenly love them after not vibing with the writing, style, or even plots. And they typically get way too heated over any criticisms. It’s fine to like them, just don’t force them on anyone else because they have different tastes

Quality of writing is subjective, but imo throne of glass wasn’t that well written. It was fun and I enjoyed it immensely but it was not well written (but that’s just my opinion, you’re allowed to think it is and that’s valid too!)

She has a family member in the Israeli military I think. She also made an insensitive post about Briana Taylor, however, I argue that anyone who is monetized on social media who discusses topic like that for views could also be cancelled like that for the same reason. (True crime enthusiasts, writers, influencers, etc.) discussing any tragedy while simultaneously making money or exposure from it may be considered dubious at best.

It’s really the Breonna Taylor post for me. She used a black woman’s cruel death to announce her new book and that post is live TO THIS DAY. She never took it down or apologized, just happily profiting off of police brutality.

“Insensitive post” is a bit of an understatement. she essentially went “sucks that woman got killed but anyway here’s my new book :)))”

Yeah, like I said it’s like those true crime influencers who are like “hey here’s some story about a brutal murder of a teen girl, remember to sub to the patreon!”
