i feel so bad for those who don’t have a voice in their head or imagery created in their brain as they read 🥀

Aphantasia, the inability to picture things in your head, I have it. It makes note taking essential for everything as a poet and as a college student.

Nightmares are the scariest part because I just hear and feel things but can’t see anything

I also have aphantasia and find it incredibly difficult to distinguish what my dreams are actually like. Because when I wake up obviously I can’t visualize, so when I recall my dream it feels similar to how I’d recall any other memory with no visual aspect. So it could be that there are visuals, or that I just know what things look like and what’s going on, definitely emotionally grounded dreams but yeah idk what’s your take on this

I agree, it feels like there is a presence within the mind, but without the visual aspect. It is so hard to explain

It is so hard to explain to people who don’t have it. I’ve never met someone who I could talk about this with before lol

Do you enjoy reading fiction even though you can't picture things?

I do. I got so jealous when i found out people could *SEE* scenes and characters though. Now i understand why people get offended by fan art or movie adaptations if it doesnt match what they imagined.

This is so real. I have to reread sections sometimes cause my inner voice isn’t reading it properly.
