1st person always gives bad wattpad x reader fanfic to me. Maybe most popular first person books are poorly written but it’s so rare that I find one that actually does it well.

Ive read only one that worked and it had an unreliable narrator so the misdirection was actually a gut punch at the climax

Dude the Farseer trilogy is literally peak though. TKAM was one of my favorite books growing up (until I had to read it for school). I don’t really pay much attention to tense so those are the only two examples I can think of off the top of my head but first person can be peak

In character driven novels, third person just provides a ton of unnecessary distance and often hampers what the author is trying to do. I can’t think of a character driven novel written in third person that works
