it was a slower pace and felt like we were kinda floating behind the MC as he goes through the motions of life, but i thought that reaaally helped the reader see into the world building. i found it thought provoking and am wanting to go back and pick it apart with annotations and analysis🧍🏻♀️ (i’ll also share a tip i was given, be cozy at home and have an emotional support pet/stuffy with you for the ending because holy shit)
that’s fair that you didn’t like the writing! i thought it was a bit slow paced and the minimal dialogue threw me off at first, but i generally didn’t mind too much. as for the ending, i agree that it felt really abrupt! (while trying to be super mindful of spoilers for other commenters) from my first read it felt really out of left field and unlikely as well, which is partially why i want to revisit and analyze the book now that there’s hindsight
yeah i see exactly what you’re saying, i was curious about what other people thought of the ending and browsed some discussions online and found some interesting takes there as well. (still trying to be vague bc spoilers but hopefully this is communicated decently) some peoples takes were about how some of marcos’ acts of kindness in part II were more of a manipulation tactic, or a false moral code while he’s still taking advantage of and benefiting from the ‘animals’. +++
which that take did make the ending make a little more sense, but it’s still something that i’d want to explore in a reread. i do enjoy seeing the conversations that come from the book though! (i also haven’t discussed this book with anyone after reading it so i’m trying so hard to not rant too much)
