I have had no less than 3 grad classes so far (for my MA in English) that have studied graphic novels, comics, and manga. I’ve also written an essay about literature and video games for a diff class. Thinking xyz has no literary merit is uncreative.
Just a reminder, reading comics/manga/graphic novels is still reading. Idc what yall say! Get off your high horse and stop thinking books are the only way to read. Mfs think listening to an audio book is reading so why cant comics be readin?!

Literature is everywhere. The themes found in classic novels are also in visual media. One whole class I took was about the inter play between text and imagery. This stuff is in NO WAY lesser reading! It requires a completely different approach to symbolism and lit analysis that is beautiful and challenging. We should celebrate reading in all of its forms, because they each bring something new to the table. Audiobooks bring performance into the equation. Everything reading is wonderful!!!

Hi I’m the OP of this post you reposted, i just want to clarify i wasnt trying to rag on people who listen to audiobooks!! I just saw someone in the group was posting about comics and they kept getting downvoted and it made me mad cause that’s still reading I totally agree we should celebrate all forms of reading! ☺️💕
