not book related but this seemed like the community to ask. I’m trying to in depth study one thing per month. any ideas? this month has been creative writing. other ideas I have are different psychologies, philosophies, art history, etc

here’s some things I’ve gotten really into at times! very fun self-guided studies according to me at least: - Arctic and Antarctic age of exploration expeditions - conservation of wild / native bees - Irish medieval literature - history of English script and how to read different hands - wetland ecology and (related) uses of bogs by Iron Age European cultures - Red River and Northwest rebellions

You should definitely do some on ecology and wildlife. There are a lot of fascinating books about forest health and how it directly impacts us. More than happy to provide recs if that interests you.

aware that these might be more specific than you’re looking for but also: - American murder ballad traditions as a precursor to modern true crime - history of beading + how it was impacted by colonialism - Shetland knitting traditions (Shetland lace and Fair Isle stranded colorwork) - Catharism and the Albigensian crusade - anatomy + ecology of aquatic macroinvertebrates - songs from the Diggers / True Levellers

i was coming to say this too! get into local ecology - you’d be amazed how much the world opens up around you when you can identify different trees and birdsong in your area
