Plz tell me I’m not the only one. I am an avid reader especially dark romance but I do love my fluffy in between. Do any of yall in a relationship feel you compare your real partner to fiction ones? Does it cause you inner turmoil? Like you can do better?

Bro I’ll be dead honest I can’t help you until I know what you’re comparing it too. Like, do you want your partner to flirt and take you on cute dates? Or do you want the sort of let the world burn dedication that we often see in fiction? There’s levels to this shit But yeah I don’t think youre crazy bc you’re clearly aware of where you get the standards and shit

I should probably go to therapy now that I read this out loud. However if any of yall struggle with this plzzzz lmk. I feel so alone in these feelings.

I have been struggling with this a lot in my current relationship. Idk if I’m trying to find a reason to leave? I do tend to ignore the little voice saying I deserve better bc I read and feel it can set unrealistic expectations. Are they unrealistic or am I just holding myself back because I haven’t experienced the “unrealistic” person?

Yeah that’s fucking crazy man, imagine if your partner said you wanted them to act more like the stars in porn videos, I’m sure that wouldn’t feel so great.

Obviously the mafia and shit isn’t real. But I feel I shouldn’t have to ask for simple stuff. Date nights. Help around the house. Intentional Quality time. I shouldn’t have to ask him to adult basically. I also shouldn’t have to questions whether or not he knows me. Like why do you “struggle” to plan dates? You should know what I like and don’t like. Same with gifts. Why do you struggle to get me a Christmas present when we have been together 4 fucking years?!?!

No no it makes sense. You want the romance. Your standards aren’t crazy at all. You want him to be intentional and romantic and put effort into your relationship, which is a very normal, realistic thing to want. It’s effort, but it’s not like, hard. I’m sure you could do it for him, but he either can’t or won’t do it for you. Tl;dr no that’s normal ur not crazy

Yea no that is not what I was saying at all. I’m not talking about the sexual portions of the book. I’m talking about feeling known and understood. Not sex
