I think it is firmly below average. I cannot imagine why it’s so popular.

I haven’t read it, but it seems up my alley. Do you recommend?

I’m partway into the second one

I started the first, about 100 pages in. It’s alright, sometimes it feels like it’s pandering to RPG fans too much though. Mogworld by Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw did a similar concept, but much more engaging imo.

Yk I’ve had it on my shelf for a couple years always intending to get to it, but now it’s so popular and a lot of the fans I’ve talked to online and IRL have been really annoying about it and I just keep pushing it off. Def not you btw, just my experience so far

I’ve read it through twice. Excellent series and stoked to finally see it getting the hype it deserves! Glurp Glurp!

I really enjoy it! The pop culture references and characters really keep the story interesting. Though there’s several moments when the humor fades out and you’re reminded what a horrible situation the characters are in.

Valid experience I know several people got really into it and try too hard to make others read it or are just obnoxious about some references

What did you think of it?

Honestly I thought it was just okay. I get why it’s popular (the audiobook is very well done and it’s easy to get into) but the writing is mid and kind of repetitive. The humor is good and conceptually it’s very fun. But overall 3.5/5 for me.

That’s where I am. I feel as if it was overhyped a lot but still a fun read. I’m probably going to finish the series. I think it can be as simple or complex as u want. The book itself being a fun read is a nice commentary about how we are just like the people watching by “enjoying” the book and I think that’s pretty cool

It gets wayyyyy better. Always hard to judge a series by the first book since it’s mainly just world building and setting the stage for the series. Also the audiobooks are the way to go for sure. Jeff Hayes is a wizard with his voices.
