Just finished A Court of Mist and Fury and the feminist in me is so icked out by the fated mates trope tbh (it’s my first faerie romance). Like the whole ‘“she’s MINE” he growls’ thing…
I hate possessive “she is mine” kind of stuff. It’s so disgusting. You don’t own her mister she is her own person. It’s one of the biggest icks a book can have for me tbh

I think the “mates” part is what appeals to a lot of the books audience 😭 like a lazy way of building deeper intimacy but also makes sense for the world she built, but the way that they start acting after the “mating bond” like what are we DOINGGGGG

How is that stuff not flat out corny? Like how do people actually get turned on by it? I read it and it’s just so hard to believe. I’m sorry

I honestly just think it’s cause the readers are meant to imagine the most gorgeous dark featured man they can possibly picture in their heads yearning for the female lead

YESSS so upsetting they didn’t include this part of the lore sooner and then make it the center of the book AFTER readers are invested in the rest of the storyline 😭
