Honestly I prefer writing in third person 😭 I can read either but usually that’s how I prefer to write, it usually works better with the type of story I’m telling

Listen I can absolutely read books in third person but I prefer first, esp for fantasy and romance. I like learning about things as the character does and having to make inferences and conclusions the same as the main character. I also prefer to read character development than world building so it helps with that🤷‍♀️I’m still a great reader who’s read 20 books so far this year and not all of them were first person, but most were and I’m happy with that

Like literally PLEASE PAY TEACHERS LIVABLE WAGES!!!! A lot of people don’t realize how much teachers do for their students and families!! Another thing is that the LITERAL GOVERNMENT THINKS that TEACHERS make TOO MUCH MONEY!!??? Yes the government thinks that, as a daughter of a teacher that teaches kindergarten, the government thinks that my mom makes TOO MUCH MONEY TO GET ME PELL GRANTS!!! The only reason I just now have full Pell grant money is because my mom is a single widow parent of 4!!

I don’t understand like third person is as close to watching tv as a book can get

I actually HATE reading first person books. It really diminishes the enjoyability for me and makes me feel like I’m reading fanfiction or a book for kids or something. 😭 obviously to each their own!!! but it’s just not for me

With nearly 50% of all teachers having children of their own, there is especially no excuse for the pay they give teachers!

All of that can also occur in 3rd person if it’s 3rd person limited. It’s only if it’s 3rd person omniscient that you learn things the character doesn’t know

(None of this is to say it’s not perfectly fine for you to prefer first person, I’m just adding information)

first person does tend to be easier for people to learn and understand, but I agree with #8. What’s your favorite first person book then?

No and that’s normally what else I’ll get I just can’t picture being the main character as easily and get in their head lol

And that number is including me as well!!! LIKE TEACHERS SHOULD GET PAID MORE THAN WHAT IS GIVEN!!! Another thing that people don’t realize is the fact that TEACHERS PAY FOR THEIR OWN SUPPLIES!!! Anything that is outside of what a teacher can get, from their budget, COMES OUTTA THEIR OWN POCKETS!!!

There is more than what people know about teachers and what they do for their students, that is shown by the surface

Not to mention, most people get paid for overtime even when it’s done at home— teachers often do not and those hours are unaccounted for.

EXACTLY!!! One of my mom’s friends doesn’t get paid overtime for being a teacher and a coach!!!

You’d think so; I wonder if for some people/ groups/ grades, it’s an empathy issue. They can usually feel much more sympathy than empathy it seems as of rn. (What I mean by that is I personally feel like a plausible hypothesis is that younger gen’s, for various reasons, are becoming less empathetic– so they require more I, me, etc pronouns to really “get” the character)

That’s exactly what I think, based off my very insufficient research on Google lol so don’t take my word. But I definitely think it’s an empathy thing and many other people agree

That crazy bc I just figured such might be the case with recent child psych trends and school research (as a Psych and CJ major) 😭 I never found an issue with relating to characters in third person— neither did most girls and some guys. (supported in study not just anecdotal for difference)

Counter point though is that the post may be referring to someone not liking third person and they enjoy the character internal monologue and the battle vs the self

Big difference between writing a text post vs writing a story (which they clearly meant). No need to be pedantic

There wasn’t anything funny about it though? Like in another context yeah, but here it doesn’t make sense to follow what the commenter was saying.

People deserve a living wage whether they have children or not lol.

Well, duh, but especially areas with lots of children and such should get more taxes

People with children generally pay less in taxes? I’m so confused about what your point is.

upvote 4 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #16 15w

The point is that it is especially important for teachers to make a livable wage because many are responsible for other people’s children (essential to society) as well as they’re own (essential to society + causes an additional financial burden even with a tax write off). Thus due to this double disadvantage and value they provide to society, it is especially important for them to make a livable wage so they can continue to provide this benefit and it’s not as hard

Okay my bad, I didn’t mean to come to bat on your behalf. I just read it as a dismissal to your points (which I agreed with myself as a writer). I was frustrated by what I thought was a lazy counter argument, but looks like I’ve misread things
