Personally for me it depends on the book, genre, and character. Sometimes I can do it, other times I prefer third person

I have to actively pretend it’s not first to be able to enjoy it. It’s giving bad author insert wattpad fic

That’s so funny I’m the exact opposite. There are only a select few books that I’ve forced myself to get through in third person. I feel like first person is more immersive

SAAMMMEE!! Whats funnier is it didn’t bother me before reading fanfic. It was DEFINITELY. The author insert fanfiction that ruined it for me

Fourth Wing was giving that. The first person writing in it was so bad it broke my immersion.
Pretty much any first person adult romantasy that was written in the past 3 years tbh.

Getting downvoted for this is actually so shitty when your opinion is objectively the same as OP’s. I hate this group sometimes. As if I didn’t spend my entire summer reading classics written in first person for grad school. Like it’s just a preference. No one is right.

Oh I wasn’t trying to argue! I don’t think anyone is “right” at all! Reading is so subjective and if you find a writing style that works for you that’s awesome. Whatever gets people reading!

I wasn’t really directing this at your original post! Just whoever had downvoted 3’s comment bc it is equally as valid and it annoys me when folks can’t accept that art is subjective.
