Cars.com just posted its American made index for 2025 GM doesn’t have a single model in the top 25, Ford doesn’t have a single model on the top 20, and 60% of the top 10 are EVs. The top 4 are all teslas.

I know Tesla makes a lot of their parts in-house instead of designing their cars to use existing parts, thus easier to make in America. Unfortunately the big three like to cheap out, and make a lot of their cars in Mexico, and use a lot parts not made in the US to cut costs.

It’s the American made index which ranks all the models and what % is made and assembled in America. And they do it every year it just takes about 6 months for them to compile everything for each year.

Well the U.S. and Canada just signed a trade deal with Mexico to manufacture 70% of our cars from there in order to bolster their economy without allowing the money to be taken by corrupt officials

That’s not why they do that

Why do you think they do it? Can you add something you know?

Well many automakers in the US haven’t followed that “70%”

I disagree, production in Mexico in many instances would make vehicles more expensive, for example the #1 most American car per cars.com is also the cheapest car to own in America based on all costs of ownership. Sourcing out your manufacturing to multiple different places adds to the cost of a vehicle.

Then why is the car with the highest American made %, the same car that has the lowest cost of ownership based on all costs of ownership?

Because it’s the car that people want to drive the least?

Because they lowered the price to match demand

Basic economics my guy. It’s also well known that outsourcing is cheaper in certain countries (like Mexico). It’s not debatable

The price went up $2000 from beginning of 2024 to end of 2024… Basic economics isn’t comprehensive enough to cover things like this

Look into “economies of scale” it’s another economic principle that explains the benefits of doing things yourself and not sourcing it, in all instances. (Some instances out sourcing can be better but not all).

I don’t need to “look into it” I’m in college everyone knows what economies of scale are. It doesn’t matter how you google because IT IS CHEAPER TO MANUFACTURE CARS IN MEXICO. There might be exceptions to outsourcing but they don’t apply here because it is simply a fact that it’s cheaper

Not debatable. It’s like trying to argue that the sky isn’t blue
